...and by winter white, I mean the current state of my skin, which makes me look like I belong in a coven of the undead. I really need to plan a trip somewhere sunny. lol.

I don't think this outfit needs much explaining--studs, lots of black, more studs, blousy sheer fabric...pretty much all of my style essentials wrapped up in one outfit. A sartorial version of a security blanket, if you will. Just like that ratty old blankie my sister will never get rid of, I don't think I could ever part with this combo. As if I'd try.

So clearly my blazer obsession is never going away. They're just so perfect for every occasion, and they legit go with EVERYTHING. I'm so ready to wear bright colors again, and this cobalt blazer from Susan Graver for QVC fits the bill perfectly! I don't have a ton of experience buying from QVC, but I must say the selection is insane! Susan Graver offers mostly work-appropriate items, but I'm kind of crazy for all the outerwear options (like this colorblock coat--hellooo)!
Side note: Did you know that almost all QVC clothing goes up to a 3X and runs large? If you're buying, size down for sure.

I also busted out one of my new favorite tops from Simply Be! I absolutely love the way the print adds personality to a work look. To play off the panels in the jacket, I also paired the blazer with my leather paneled skirt from Forever 21+, on sale now for $9.99! Crazy. I might buy a backup.

Thanks for reading! Happy Friday!

The first few weeks of January always have me on the verge of getting sick (I chalk it up to the awesome holidays coming to an end), so I'm constantly reaching for my comfiest, coziest knits! This oversized sweater is an old clearance find that I picked up during one of my date nights when I'd decided to wear the ~cute~ outfit instead of the practical, warm-enough option. The things we do for fashion! :P

These skinnies from Wet Seal are probably my new favorite lounging pants--they're ridiculously comfortable (like sweats!) but cut with a skinny fit so the overall look isn't sloppy. Looove. Word of advice, if you haven't bought from Wet Seal in a while, order your usual adult size! I sized up since I thought the junior sizing would run small, but my regular size would have been perfect. Oh well. still love these! :D

I hope you're all having an awesome week! Thanks for reading!

Be totally honest. When you think of Wet Seal, what comes to mind? For me, it brings me back to my middle school days of flared jeans and 4-inch foamy platform sandals. I'd ditch class (sorry mom & dad), plaster my walls with posters, and have deep intellectual conversations about who was better--Backstreet Boys or 'N Sync.

All kidding aside, Wet Seal has come a long way since then. Sure, they still have your usual junior plus items, but they also have some awesome gems like this dress, which I am in absolute LOVE with. The wavy striped print is so modern but feels a little Japanese print-inspired, and the fit is comfy perfection. Can't wait to wear it bare-legged in the summer!

What do you guys think of Wet Seal's new plus size offerings? I'm pretty psyched to have a new (old?) place to shop! :D

Boots with lining

The fabric I wanted to use for boots turned out to stain. Fortunately, I was using an extra pair of legs from a Create a Monster set, so it didn't ruin a doll. As I was set on using that fabric, I decided to try making lining for the boots. I wanted it to be as thin as possible, but still stretchy, so I used a piece of the stretchy lace fabric I used alone for an earlier pair of boots.

First I sewed the top seam, joining the outer fabric and lining.

Then I folded the pieces lengthwise and sewed the back seams.

After that, I turned the outer parts the right side out.

The top needs to be adjusted so that the lining does not show, but remains the fabric that will be against the doll's leg.

Then I glued the uppers to the insoles made of leather and cardboard as usual.

I made the heels from pieces of wood, which I covered using the same fabric.

Here are the finished boots on a doll. She's sitting, because unfortunately, the heels turned out to be slightly wrong length and the doll cannot stand when wearing the boots. As you can see, the top of the back seam has a fairly big bulge, because the fabric is folded both vertically and horizontally there. As this was the first pair I made using this technique, I didn't try to do anything about that, but it needs to be addressed, if I decide to try making another pair.

Welcomed 2013 with everything I could ever ask for--people I love, awesome music, great food, and a killer dress. Thanks, Talbots, for sending this chic velvet number and sparkly bracelet when I couldn't find anything to wear! I absolutely loved the dress and can't wait to find an excuse to wear it again!

Happy New Year, everyone! Thanks for another fabulous year, and sticking with me on this blog. Nothing but lots and lots of love for you! :)
