washed out

[ :: City Chic ikat top :: Halogen pencil skirt :: Torrid heels :: F21 necklace :: Michael Kors bag :: ]
[ :: crappy, rainy, washed out weather courtesy of mother nature :: ]

I'm not usually a prints person but I'm currently having a bit of an ikat obsession. I just have this top (plus another one on the way!) in the print but I love it! I picked this up during the crazy 60% off everything City Chic sale, which had some seriously amazing deals! I snagged a few other pieces, which I can't wait to show you. :) This was, clearly, before the shopping ban which I've thus far sucked at. lol.

Did you guys buy anything from City Chic's super sale? I want to know! :D

tell me more

[ photography by bagel ]
[ :: me and my awesomesauce photographer/bf. I ♥ him. :: ]

Blogs are such strange things. They are, by nature, incredibly one-sided and weirdly revealing. Still though, a reader only knows as much as the author is willing to post, which, on Curvy Girl Chic, amounts to little except perhaps the contents of my closet and maybe my bad shopping habits.

SO. Let's get to know one another, shall we? List 5 random things about yourself. I'll start.

  1. My favorite people are the ones who make me laugh so hard my eyes water and I start wheezing.
    Yes, I've laughed so hard I've started wheezing like an old man. Sounds a lot like my dad.
  2. When I was really little I'd go to department stores with my mom and hide in the round clothes racks.
  3. In said racks, I'd steal the shiny sequins & beads off clothes because I thought they were pretty.
    I don't do that anymore. Promise.
  4. I'm that person who belts out songs on the radio while in the car even though I don't know the lyrics.
    Sorry. I'll stop. But not really, 'cause it's way too much fun.
  5. I can't sleep with socks on. At all. Ever. It's like... night-time prison for your feet.

Your turn! :D
Don't forget to leave a link to your blog if you have one! :)

east coast basics

[ :: H&M top :: See Thru Soul skinnies :: Gap leather jacket :: Winter Market & H&M bracelets :: ]
[ :: Kenneth Cole clutch :: Matt Bernson wedges via Solestruck:: ]

As much of a California girl as I am, there are a few "east coast" things I will never get rid of:
(1)Black boots cool enough to make a statement, but comfortable enough to last a day of walking
(2)Black leather jacket to give any outfit just a little edge
(3) All things studded

People around me are perpetually in surf brands, flip flops, and shorts, so obviously, black leather and studs can feel a little out of place. I grew up with and love the beach-y, casual, boho look, but the above things are just a few trends that'll never get old to me.

Are there things that you'll never let go of, no matter where you are? Or am I just kinda crazy? lol!

P.S. Self mandated shopping ban in the works. No shopping until the end of April! Thaaaat's.....40 days. I can totally do this......right? =/

Shop for a Cause: Forever21!

Ladies and Gentlemen! :D Today only, Forever21 is donating 100% of every dollar spent to the earthquake and tsunami relief efforts in Japan! This means they're taking a LOSS on everything sold today, to benefit Japan. This, if you haven't figured out, is a HUGE deal. I'm so SO glad that a big name retailer has decided to do this!

For those of you who aren't interested in shopping, you can still donate to the Red Cross here!

Kmart Fashion: Love Your Style, Love Your Size Recap and Review

Hey Loves! ♥

For the past couple weeks I've been reviewing a few pieces from the Love Your Style, Love Your Size collection from Kmart. Like I said in my first LYS review post, I was more than skeptical when I received the press release that Kmart was launching a younger, fresher, plus size line. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the styling of the lookbook and the designs themselves--nowhere in sight were the matronly prints and too-long skirts I associated with the retailer's existing lines. The samples they sent me further proved that not only did they get the look and design right, the quality far surpassed my expectations.

Tiered Mini Skirt: $19.99 (price from lookbook--can't find it on the website yet!)
Pros: I love the cute print and the fabric is really nice and flowy!
Cons: Really short, even for me! (I have kinda short legs so that usually isn't a problem.) Also, runs a bit big!
Overall: Totally cute, and a great value at the price if you don't mind showing a little (or a lot) of leg!

[ :: more photos :: ]

Printed Halter Blouse: $15.39
Pros: I love the subdued leopard print and the design details like the blouson effect and ruffled shoulders.
Cons: The front button gapes! No one wants to flash their coworkers! Also, the cut of the shoulders requires a strapless bra.
Overall: I would suggest this for people interested in a good work top as it looks super cute under blazers. If you're handy with a sewing kit, you might want to sew the front placket shut!

Ombre Studded Dolman Top: $17.49
Pros: Love the design, and the quality is nice! I love the studded neckline and earthy colors.
Cons: The fit is a bit off--the banded bottom is partially elasticized but it isn't cut narrow enough to give a blouson effect. Also, the sleeves are on the tighter side! those who tend to carry weight up top (like myself) might find this top ill-fitting.
Overall: I looove the design of this top--it would look so cute on someone whose body shape properly fills it out! For it, it's just too loose at the bottom hem. I would consider getting it tailored to fit better, but that would cost just as much as the top!

In general, the line is one that I think you need to see in person to appreciate. Like all clothing lines, there are basics that border on boring, but there are also great, fashion forward pieces that I love and think will work great in the stylish curvy girl's wardrobe! Also, the quality for the price point is great. I definitely recommend putting aside any initial reactions and stopping by Kmart to check out the line. I, for one, am happy I did!

[ :: Just a few other pieces from LYS that I think are really cute! I'm 99% sure I'm going to get that blue ikat exposed zipper top! :D :: ]

Like any line, LYS has its flaws, but I'm happy to report that it really delivers on the design and quality-for-price front! So what do you think? Will you give Kmart's LYS line a shot?

wild sedation

[ :: gifted Kmart Love Your Style studded top :: iT! skinnies :: Torrid boots :: ]
[ :: Cynthia Rowley bag :: diy feather earring :: ]

Last review piece for Kmart's Love Your Style line! :D This top is super comfortable (albeit a little static cling-y)--I love the way earthy, pale colors work together, and I love the studded detailing along the neckline. I wish they had made the bottom band more fitted and elastic, as my booty doesn't nearly fill it out and it looks unnecessarily baggy. Nothing a quick trip to the tailor won't fix though! I can't wait to wear this with skinnies for Spring, shorts for Summer, and a jeans, boots, and a trench for Fall!

Anyway, if I somehow haven't convinced you to check out the LYS line yet, just wait for my final recap and review. I was amazed by the quality I was getting for the price point and can't share what other items I have my eye on! :D

Have you guys tried the LYS line yet? Let me know what you think! ♥

working girl

[ :: gifted Kmart Love Your Style top :: NY&Co pencil skirt :: Gap denim moto jacket :: ]
[ :: H&M leopard clutch :: Dolce Vita x Target wedges :: ModCloth octopus ring :: headband from Taiwan :: ]

Another top from the Kmart Love Your Style line! I really love this piece for work--it's easy and looks cute while remaining work appropriate (though I do wish that the buttons were a bit more overlapped for workplace modesty. Twist the wrong way and it's possible that you might show a bit more than you bargain for. Nothing a bandeau or cami can't fix though! :)

Anyway! One more piece to show you from the LYS line! Hopefully I'll be able to shoot it soon! :D
It might just be my favorite piece. :D

surprise me

[ :: gifted Love Your Style skirt :: Old Navy button down :: Forever21 mary janes :: ]
[ :: LOFT necklace :: H&M bow belt & clutch :: diy chains :: ]

 I love love love Kmart's new plus size line, Love Your Style, Love Your Size. I was a bit skeptical when I received the press release--I assumed it would be dowdy, boxy clothing in boring, age-inappropriate prints.
However, once I caught sight of the images from their lookbook, I knew I had to give them a chance. I'll be sharing a few pieces over the next few days, starting with this skirt! I'll do a quick wrap up and full review when all the pieces have been outfitted. ;)
*Spoiler: I'm pretty impressed! :) This colorful skirt is my favorite piece of them, all! :D

Have any of you readers found cute clothes at Kmart?? I've always considered their plus size selection to be limited but I am definitely loving this new line! Will you guys be checking it out or purchasing from the new line? Let me know! :D

floppy

[ :: One Clothing dress :: H&M belts :: Dolce Vita x Target wedges :: Rebecca Minkoff bag :: ]
[ :: H&M floppy hat :: AE wood and gold mix bangle :: Surevolution gold driftwood bangle :: ]

Just a quick post to let you know I'm still alive! I've having ridiculous issues with my internet at home so I'm sneaking in a post at work. Shhh! :P

Oh oh! I started a Tumblr! :D It's really just for fun though, hehe. So far, I've mostly posted awesome shoes and other things I want to get my hands on, lol! I'll also be posting outtakes from my "photoshoots" because some of them are just too stupid and unflattering not to share! haha.

Happy Friday Everyone! :D
