denim+denim

[ :: H&M denim shirt & belt :: AE shorts :: Old Navy gold braided sandals :: bag from Japan :: Urban earrings :: ]

I've been looking for an easy way to work denim+denim and it really doesn't get easier than this outfit! I love that you can just peek the darker denim shorts from the side. I'd totally pair this oversized shirt with white skinny jeans and tan wedges on cooler days--it's got the perfect laid-back style I love--super washed and worn-in looking. :) Also, this leather belt is one of my favorite purchases EVER from H&M. It's from their divided section, and is real leather, made in Italy. Also, it was something ridiculously cheap--maybe $15 tops?? Surprisingly good quality and really soft. And it gets softer with use. Looooove.

Anyway, gotta cut this short! Tons of laundry, packing and cleaning to do! Chicago in 2 days and the Lane Bryant conference in a week! :)

Sorry for the lack of proper photos...there would have been more but pretty much right when we started taking photos I noticed a window COVERED in mosquitoes!! Being the total wimp that I am, I ran all the way back to my apt in 5" heels. Clearly, I was a hot mess afterward.

Anyhow, I love this dress--snagged it during Dorothy Perkins' £10 off every dress event! Such a good deal. Love that this dress is versatile. I would pair it with a blazer & pumps for work, on its own with some vampy heels & some fancy accessories for night! :)

Oof. On another note, I just found out this morning that I'm needed to work in Cali for an extra three weeks after I return from Taiwan. Will be away from my Boston home for a total of 2 months. Double BOOOO. Sad. (Yes, I'm being a baby.) Will also need to find temporary photog. :(

On the other hand, mini weekend trip with my AWESOMEEE sister to Chicago this weekend! Then it's off to the :Lane Bryant blogger conference! SOOO excited! :D Keep the concerns and topics for the conference coming! I've got suggestions about catering toward non-model-height women, introducing edgier/younger clothing, & opening in Canada. What else is on your minds?

P.S. Check out Amelia Pontes' leopard looks at her blog Sound Bites...she seriously has an amazing way with this print! <3

Sorry for the spotty posting (as in every other day instead of daily...which is probably just spotty in my mind, lol). Trying to balance work/life/play and preparing for being out of Boston for over a month is getting sort of crazy. That and I'd like to spend as much time with the bf as possible before leaving, lol. Reminds me of those Snickers Pop-ables commercials with the "separation anxiety" tagline. hehe :P AND, M is leaving for GOOD soon, so we have to knock things off his to-do-in-boston list before then! :(

FYI, I opened up a Formspring.me account (woot--bandwagon! lol) where you can ask me questions or just say hi! :)  Just keep it classy, please. :) Sometimes people think a shroud of anonymity makes it okay to be completely rude and classless. So untrue and pretty disappointing.
Aside from those people, though, I love hearing from you guys!! :D Since it's harder for me to follow up on questions in comments, if you have something to ask, do it via formspring and I'll make sure to answer as soon as possible! :)

Heart you guys! :D As always, thanks so much for reading my blog! :)

[ :: Alloy top :: gifted Torrid wedges and skinnies :: AE clutch :: ]

Kept things simple for this outfit since I was going to a bar to check out a rock-fusion band my sis had told me about. Not exactly an edgy/rock outfit by any stretch of the imagination, but it's exactly the kind of outfit I've been wanting to wear.

Still in love with these Torrid skinnies--they just get better and better! Plus, they have a ton of stretch. I can do the splits in them!! (Don't ask why I was doing splits in jeans, haha.) Also, I knew I would be walking a lot but didn't want to wear flats so I grabbed the comfiest pair of wedges I own. They were fine for about an hour and a half but I was cringing by the end of the night. Hence the lack of motivation to go somewhere cool for photos afterward. hehe. =X If you can't tell by my smudgy makeup and slightly scraggly hair, these photos were taken at like.. 1:30am.

Anyhow, if you follow me on twitter you probably know I've been looking for a floaty gauzy top, preferably white. I couldn't find anything like that available at a reasonable price for plus sizes, until I stopped by Alloy.com--which, if you didn't know, has a nice selection of clothing available in plus sizes up to 3X. Amaaazzzzing.

I seriously love this top--and it was cheap! I used a discount code (ALWAYS do. Can't bring myself to pay full price for something unless I'm completely OBSESSED with it...and that's only once in a long while!) and got the top 20% off! :) This was my first time purchasing from them and I'm pretty happy with the service and speed. I'd definitely order again! It's such an amazing resource for the floaty & beachy Cali-girl clothing I love. :)

Have you guys shopped at alloy.com for plus sizes before?? I'd love to know what you think! :)

So a super nice reader asked me a question about shopping at H&M--I've sort of answered this before in the Q&A post, but I'll break it down with a little more detail here.

Q: A lot of the stuff you get is from H&M and I'm just wondering what size it is and are you buying in the US or UK? I'm a size 16 and I figured the stuff in the US store isn't going to fit me.Thanks so much!

A: Okay. So. I'm a size 18 top, 16 bottom and I shop at the H&M stores in the US (no plus-size range).
From recent posts, the purple ruffled toppink mesh floral top, and the stripey oversized top are all size L, the polka dot dress is a 14, the light blue stripey dress with tie front is a 14, white blazer is a 16, so on and so forth. My point is that you can make many different sizes work for you! The polka dot skirt I'm wearing today is an L but I could easily have fit into a S (it's suuuuuuuper stretchy! you can fit a whole other me-sized person in!).
My method when shopping H&M is to grab the largest size they have and see how that works.
I don't want to sound like a broken record but the thing you have to do is have the patience to try stuff on. Pay attention to what fabric a piece is made out of, as well as how it's cut--if it's cut to be oversized or is made of a fabric with a lot of stretch, it'll be more forgiving than a tight non-stretch top.

Whew. That was kind of a mouthful but I hope that helps! I seriously love getting emails and questions from readers so keep them coming! I'll do my best to answer them! :)

Had a super late start to the day since both the boyfriend and I were recovering from last night...apparently after you graduate from college your alcohol tolerance plummets into nothingness. =X

Anyhow, I went in search of the perfect floaty/gauzy/sheer white top a couple days ago. Didn't find anything that fit my criteria but I ended up buying this purple top from H&M. I love the light chiffon-y ruffles! I'll probably be wearing this to death. Just like I'm wearing this Asos blazer to death, lol. Sorry for the repetition of pieces but it's either that or doing outfit posts less often! I tend to find a piece I love and wear it as often as possible.  hehe :P

Before I leave you lovelies, this is the cake I baked and decorated for the bf's birthday! :D

I stupidly forgot to put parchment paper down before frosting so the platter has a mess of frosting around the bottom. Oh well! It was tastyyy :)

candy coated clothing

[ :: Asos Curve dress :: H&M belt :: Gap braided gold sandals :: bag from japan :: ]
[ :: earrings from taiwan :: NY&Co bracelet :: ]

It took me forever to post this dress 'cause I wasn't sure what to wear underneath it. It's pretty sheer and I didn't want to pair it with leggings since it's so summery! While I was packing for Vegas, I found a short slip that I had chucked into a bin in the corner of my closet, and VOILA! haha.

Anyhow! The dress is great and super comfortable--my only gripe is that it wrinkles suuuuper easily. I paired it with a white and gold belt since it's a little too much coral color all in one place for me, and kept it simple with my elephant earrings and gold hammered bracelets. Also wearing new nail colors! The mint green nails are kind of hard for me to get used to since I typically wear muted nail colors, but I like it for Summer. I'm in looove with the grey toe color--might be switching my hands to this color soon, lol.

Okay loves! Time to go make a dark chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream frosting for the bf! His birthday is tomorrow! Yay :)

seeing spots

[ :: H&M dress :: Asos Curve oversize blazer :: earrings from taiwan :: Cynthia Rowley jen bag :: ]
[ :: Metropark necklace doubled and worn as bracelet :: Wanted patent pumps :: ]

Found this polka dot dress at H&M a few days ago--right before the barrage of polka dot trend posts on both straight and plus-size blogs! What luck! :) I snipped the elastic off of the sleeves since I thought it was unflattering and success! lol. Less flabbiness shown. :) I wanted to go for a slightly more classic look so I paired it with some patent pumps that I've had for ages and my blue oversized blazer. Accessorized with a super chain-y bracelet to keep it a little more me! :)

Sorry for the down time between outfit posts! I've been on a totally whack sleeping schedule (yes, I just said "whack") and it's totally screwed over any motivation to be productive. Should be back on track now though! *crosses fingers*

Anyway, I have some fun news! :) I was lucky enough to be invited by Lane Bryant to visit their headquarters for a small conference/round table discussion about social networking and plus size fashion! I'd love to know if any of you are going since the only other attendee I know about is Marie from The Curvy Fashionista! Also, I'd love to pass on suggestions and questions from my readers at the conference itself, so feel free to email me or comment on this post! :)

Thanks to all my readers and commenters! You guys are seriously awesome. <333
