CURRENTLY COVETING: Tadashi Shoji Holiday Collection

 photo TadashiShojiFallCollectionReds2.jpg
You guys, I can't help it. I have dreams of lounging around on a blush, tufted settee in a villa having champagne and macaron parties in these gowns. Tadashi Shoji's collections are always complete works of art, and Fall/Holiday is no exception!

I'm pretty much obsessed with the second gown. It's made of neoprene, which I can't get enough of right now! Classic and fabulous, these dresses will never go out of style!

So often, plus size women are relegated to drab dresses. The rich, saturated colors, and metallic lace on these pieces make sure you won't blend into the background at an event! The teal, off-the-shoulder tulle gown is pretty much the dress of my dreams. My birthday IS in two weeks, so what better excuse! :P Clearly I need to plan something fancy. Adult prom is a thing, right?

You can check out the whole collection online here, and just in case you're in the market for one of these gorgeous dresses, using code FALL20CGC will score you 20% off your purchase. Happy shopping! :)

Maxi dresses forever.

Adding to my collection of so-comfortable-you-could-sleep-in-them maxi dresses with this tribal number from Wet Seal! I love the almost sketched on print and the billowy structure. I got an email a couple days ago asking what I would recommend for a busy woman on the go who needs to be able to move around but doesn't want to wear jeans. The answer that immediately popped into my head was a maxi dress. So comfortable and versatile!

Shoes for Sybarite

I found some tiny stickers and wanted to use them for doll shoes. As I hadn't made anything for the Sybarite in a long time, I decided to use the resin soles I made some time ago.

First step was painting them. I used two tiny plastic cups and attached the soles to them with double-sided mounting tape to be able to paint all sides at once (except the insoles). I used Revell Enamel Paint number 04 for these.

Here is the sheet of stickers. You can't really see the scale, but the photos further below will make that clear.

For the uppers, I decided to use clear plastic. Below you can see the type of plastic I'm using for the doll shoes. It is soft and doesn't show any creases even after doing this:

The insoles have two layers of cardboard and one layer of leather, and I painted the edges.

The following photos show the order of attaching the stickers.

I even decided to put some on the insoles where they would remain visible.

After attaching all stickers, it was time to apply sealer. Again I attached the soles to the plastic cups to get even layer of sealer on all sides.

The uppers are very simple as there is no point doing anything very elaborate when using clear plastic alone (without any stickers).

I cut the pieces from the plastic and used the lines in the pattern to attach pieces of double-sided adhesive tape to the parts that go under the insole.

After making holes to the flaps, I attached the uppers. For more information on why I made the holes, see an earlier blog post.

Then I just needed to glue the insoles in place. Here are the finished shoes from several angles.

OFF THE BEATEN PATH

Curvy Girl Chic Plus Size Fashion Blog DrJays Plus Size Dress
Took a weekend to get away from the hustle and bustle and reacquaint myself with parts of California I haven't gotten to visit since I was little! So much fun to get away from the crowds for a day.

I was recently introduced to Dr Jays, a budget-friendly e-tailer of fashion for men, women, and kids. This site has something for everyone. The plus size section checks in at 818 items! Crazy. This bold, striped dress was just too fun and summery to pass up, and believe it or not, it's the first article of orange clothing in my closet! I love the skater fit and the draped, jersey construction. Decided to keep things bright with some bright yellow accessories (completely smitten with this statement necklace!) and my all-time favorite denim jacket.

SUMMER ESSENTIAL

Curvy Girl Chic Plus Size Fashion Blog - Melissa Masse Dress Summer Essentials
Been pretty much lingering in air-conditioned locales since being outside in the heat turns me into a belligerent train wreck, but for those moments that I know I'll be outside, I've been arming myself with super breezy clothes and a giant hat for sun protection.

This Melissa Masse dress is a new favorite and I'm pretty much in love with the stripey, bunting-ish flag print. The silk blend is paper-thin in the best way possible. Kept things summery with a holds-everything-and-more tote that always makes me smile, and an oversized floppy hat to hide from both the sun and people I don't want to talk to. I'm all about pieces that multitask.

IN THE KISSER

Curvy Girl Chic Plus Size Fashion Blog - ASOS Oversized Face Tee and Shorts
It's been rough reacclimating to the daily grind, but I'm back in California, trying to catch up with life. Things have been absolutely crazy--lots of unexpected changes at work, we're moving to a new place soon (!!!), and there are several fun fashion surprises in the works! Can't wait to share with you all in a couple weeks. ^__^

[ :: ASOS oversized tee (available here) :: H&M shorts (similar here) :: Grafea backpack (available here) :: ]
[ :: Calvin Klein heels (similar) :: Target sunnies (here) :: ]

The second I laid eyes on this shirt I knew I had to have it! I took a chance and ordered it even though it's not from the ASOS Curve line. For what it's worth, this is a US14/UK18 and would easily fit up to a US20/UK24. Score! Paired it with these super budget friendly sunglasses from Target which totally don't fit my face shape but I love them anyway. They're velvety and remind me of Minnie Mouse. Always a good thing! :D
